Give Yourself a Time Limit to Stay Low
By that Thursday, I was feeling better. So before the moment passed, I jumped in my car and sped to the library to get a big dose of motivation–yes, more Ziglar audio books!
A few months ago, we were faced with a new challenge in our life. It was something I didn’t want to deal with. I got pretty low when this new challenge surfaced. For a few days I just felt stinky about this crisis and didn’t want to face it.
Then, the girls got sick. Not together of course, but right after one another. And you know what happened next? We won the lottery!! Oh, of course not. You know how this goes. I got sick. Then I got stinky low. I was sick and frustrated. That was earlier in the week. By that Thursday, I was feeling better. So before the moment passed, I jumped in my car and sped to the library to get a big dose of motivation–yes, more Ziglar audio books!
In How to be a Winner, Zig talks about it being okay to have those low moments. But the new thing I discovered (without realizing I was doing it) is to put a time limit on the low. Only you will know when your time is up. He suggests giving yourself a deadline. And when your time is up, you snap back and get back to your good living. I liked his suggestion. I’m living his advice.
Life has a way of throwing things our way unexpectedly and hitting hard sometimes. Now, the next time a low hits me, I’ll know how to be in it for a moment and keep on keeping on.
